FABRIC STAINS CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS

MYSTERIOUS YELLOW STAINS
CUASE: When a garment comes in contact with juices, soft drinks, tea, coffee, or other foods or beverages containing tannin or sugar. When these substances contact a fabric, the moisture evaporates leaving only an invisible residue. Storage can cause these stains to develop through oxidation. If the stain is left in the fabric for a period of time it can be very difficult or even impossible to remove.

PREVENTION: If you wait to long before cleaning or between cleanings. The spots could become stains. The only method of prevention is to have your clothes cleaned regularly at Lindeman's Cleaning. Our addition of special starches and sizings help deter stains.

MILDEW STAINS
CAUSE: This occurs when garments or household items are left in moist, warm conditions. Poor ventilation and the absence of light contribute to the fungus growth.

PREVENTION: In its early stages Lindeman's Cleaning can clean your garments with special detergents to inhibit the growth of fungus. The key to preventing mildew is to avoid storing soiled articles in damp conditions. Soiled items should be cleaned as soon as possible.

STAINS FROM MOISTURE
CAUSE: Usually caused by contact with hair preparations, hair spray, perfumes, and /or other moisture solutions that may contain impurities, such as rain. Many moisture solutions will evaporate out the water and leave no visible stains, however time, exposure to atmospheric conditions, and heat may cause the remaining residue to oxidize and become visible.

PREVENTION: Lindeman's Cleaning has extensive fabric knowledge and can remove the starches and residue through our special cleaning processes. Regular cleaning after use will prevent permanent discoloration.

PERSPIRATION STAINS
CAUSE: These stains develop on the fabric from contact with perspiration and/or body oils. All perspiration contains fats and oils, as well as cholesterol and other substances, which are exuded from the glands onto the skin. These substances have a tendency to oxidize and turn yellowish or brownish on fabrics, can cause color loss or change, or darkening the color of the fabric.

PREVENTION: Bring to Lindeman's Cleaning to be cleaned regularly to prevent build up of perspiration/antiperspirant to prevent permanent staining.

OXIDIZED OIL STAINS
CAUSE: Vegetable, cooking oils, mayonnaise or other oils found in many foods. Lubricating or medicinal oils such as linseed oil or oils in skin lotions and salves will cause similar stains once the oil oxidizes in the fabric. These may also come from hardening agents, such as varnish. Stains from such oils are often invisible but will oxidize (absorb oxygen from the air) from normal atmospheric conditions and discolor the garment in that area.

PREVENTION: Having your garments cleaned at Lindeman's Cleaning regularly, to help prevent these types of spots from turing into stains which become more difficult or impossible to remove.

INVISIBLE ALBUMIN STAINS
CAUSE: Albumin is found in many protein-based substances. Examples are blood, eggs, milk, dairy products, fish products, vomit, some glues, saliva, as well as many other animal substances or body secretions.

PREVENTION: Lindeman's Cleaning has specific cleaning agents for albuminous spots releasing them from the fabric and adding special sizing to deter future staining.
