  • Does Dry Cleaning Shrink Your Clothes?

No, not if the dry cleaning process has been carefully controlled. As graduates of the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute, we understand how to clean items without shrinking. Most often, improper preshrinking on the part of the manufacturer causes excessive shrinking.

  • I Know That Sun Can Damage Draperies and Upholstery Fabrics. Can It Also Damage Clothing?

Direct sunlight can fade and damage the strength of most fabrics, and this also includes clothing if left in the sun for long periods of time.

  • What Is Fume Fading?

Color loss to fabric due to exposure to sunlight, home lighting and atmospheric gases. This type of fading can range from slight fading to very drastic change in color. Very often blue, green or purple fabrics turn a reddish color.

  • Where Do the Yellowish and Brown Stains on Garments Come From?

Most stains occur when you spill food, oily substances and beverages on your clothing. Often, a beverage is blotted up, and when the area dries there is no noticeable stain. With exposure to heat and the passage of time, a yellow or brownish stain will appear. This is caused by oxidation of the sugar contained in the beverage.

  • How Long Does a Shirt Usually Last?

According to the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute, the average life expectancy of a shirt is 35 to 50 washings. This may vary due to the fabric content and abrasion while wearing.

Recently, it’s been found that no-iron shirts have a chemical that causes the shirt to lose 25% of it’s wearability, and degrade even faster at wear points.

  • What Is Velvet?

Velvet is a fabric made of rayon, acetate, silk, rayon, or a blend of these fabrics. Velvet has a short, closely woven pile. Some velvet fabrics are very moisture sensitive.

Simple perspiration, water-soluble food or beverages may cause flattening of the pile. In some cases, special finishing procedures may restore the appearance of the fabric.
